Wedding Photographer FAQ

Firstly thankyou for choosing me to capture your special day!

So what now you ask? Booking is easy. To secure the date and officially book me as your wedding photographer, I require a non-refundable deposit of £200. After this, I will send your electronic contract. Don’t worry, there is nothing untoward. This document simply states the services included in your package.

Included in all packages is a complimentary pre-wedding consultation, this allows you the opportunity to meet me informally prior to the wedding day! This is a wonderful opportunity for me to get a feel for who YOU are as a couple, talk wedding plans and discuss expectations and shots for the big day!

Once you finalise your booking, I will create an online portal for you where you can view all of the documents relating to your wedding photography such as invoices, receipts and contract etc.

I will also send you an electronic questionnaire. Don’t panic, it’s not a test! These few brief questions help me gather information regarding your wedding timings and locations. This allows me to put a perfect itinerary in place. I will know exactly where to be and when. About a month before the wedding, I will check in with you.

Around a month prior to your wedding I will check in to see if we need to, or if you would like to meet once more. This is a great opportunity for us to have a run-through of plans now everything is finalised for your big day!

I require a non-refundable deposit of £200 upfront to secure the date for you, this will be deducted from the total balance. The remaining balance will need to be paid no-later than a week before the wedding date.

You are welcome to pay the total balance earlier if you wish or in instalments of your choosing. I accept bank transfers, paypal and cash payments.

One common question in this Wedding Photographer FAQ is about the length of coverage.  Full day coverage usually begins two hours before the ceremony. This includes your preparations and continues until roughly 30 minutes after the first dance. This allows me to capture your whole story, from the morning prep to the evening party.

Insurance is a vital part of being a professional, which is why I include it in this Wedding Photographer FAQ for your peace of mind.

I am fully insured with public liability and professional indemnity insurance. This covers my studio work and all wedding locations. If your venue requires confirmation, I am happy to send them a copy of my policy.

A common question I address in this Wedding Photographer FAQ is whether an engagement shoot is necessary.

The option to have an engagement shoot is of course an additional extra and as such isn’t something you necessarily need to do, however most couples choose to take advantage of this opportunity for a few reasons:

It’s a great opportunity for us to get to know one another better. This helps eliminate any nerves or anxiety before the wedding. This gives you time to get comfortable in front of the lens. Even though I blend into the background on the day, being photographed can feel daunting at first.

It’s the chance to get some beautiful shots of you, the happy couple, for the big day to incorporate into the wedding or decor as some of my previous couples have!

And lastly, it’s all a bit of fun!

Sessions normally last 60 to 90 minutes. You are welcome to choose a sentimental location, or I can make recommendations. I am happy to travel to your desired spot. I am happy to travel to your desired location. However, if it is outside the Hull area, there may be a small travel charge.

It is simply an informal opportunity for us to meet. I like to meet all of my couples, ideally at the beginning of the booking process. This allows us to discuss your wedding plans in detail. I can then build a timeline and advise you on the best photo opportunities at your venue.

It also enables me to build a timeline of your wedding day and advise you on the photo opportunities we will have in or around your chosen venue – on the rare occasion I am not familiar with a venue, this also allows time for me to scope out and do research for the best spots for the big day!

If you are out of the area and cannot find a suitable time to meet in person I am happy to accommodate and do this via phone call or video call at your convenience.

It may be worth having a brief meeting nearer your date also to go over your final itinerary after you have given notice

I always shoot with 2 Mirrorless Camera’s, this is one for resilience and two to cut down on time wasted changing lenses.

I have a number of lenses too achieve my style I capture on the day. I also carry plenty of spare memory cards and batteries. Each camera shoots to two cards at once to prevent data loss. Additionally, I use several professional flash and speed lights.

There are enough spare of everything….just in case.

For wedding photography I work to a lead-time of 4 weeks to turn around the fully edited day. I will update you during the process as they could be available before hand depending on my work schedule. I will however send over a few sneak peeks to keep you going within days!

Engagement Photography I work to have the end product within 2 weeks after you have made your choices from the selection gallery.

I record images to dual storage cards while shooting. This limits the risk of data loss if a card fails.

After your special day I back up your images three-fold.  Firstly to my editing computer in my office.  Secondly they are backup up to online storage hosted by Google. Finally, I keep an off-site copy away from my office. This ensures I can always access your photos, even in the event of fire or theft.

I can guarantee safe storage of your images for at least 12 months after your special day. After that time I may need to archive or remove them to retain storage for the future. I always advise clients to copy their images as soon as they arrive.

In a nutshell…they are pretty safe.
